The diamond grading system was established to create uniformity in diamond evaluation, helping purchasers make informed choices based on consistent standards. At the core of this system are the 4Cs of diamond grading: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. This structure has been widely accepted by leading gemological institutions, including the International Gemological Institute (IGI).
Lab-grown diamonds of 0.3 carats and above typically come with a grading report from gemological institutions, detailing the 4Cs. This report is often used for appraisal and insurance purposes. Lab-grown diamonds are evaluated using the same grading system as natural diamonds, as they are considered genuine diamonds.
Lab-created diamonds share the same attributes as natural, earth-mined diamonds—they are physically, aesthetically, and chemically indistinguishable. As a result, lab-grown diamonds are also graded using the 4Cs, allowing buyers to assess the quality of the stone.
